Thursday Feature – Cute Creations by Lea

9 May

Today I would like to introduce you to Lea from Cute Creations by Lea – a shop full of cute original artwork and knitting and crochet patterns.  As a multicrafter myself, I always love venturing into a shop which features a broad range of crafty goodness, and Lea’s adorable shop certainly fits the bill!il_570xN_444543240_l9uv

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

I am Lea and I am from France. I am a long time crafter. I have always loved to make unique personal gifts as well as buy handmade. I discovered Etsy as a buyer when I was looking for hand dyed yarns for my frenetic knitting needs (actually my stash is growing way too fast!).

I decided to open my Etsy shop after I had designed my first couple of knitting patterns. Why did I start writing up patterns? Because fellow knitters who saw my personal designs asked me if there was a pattern. From that moment I started taking notes while improvising.

I also thought about selling my paintings for a while, even before starting to design knitting patterns. I love to draw child-friendly stuff and I ended stashing up my artwork. I have a day job that has nothing to do with art despite taking art classes at high school and college and when I went part-time after staff cuts I finally decided to do the paperwork and open my Etsy shop as I have reasonable time to take it seriously.

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us about the thought process involved in creating it and why it is your favourite.il_570xN_436281224_li79

I have several favorites. But my Under The Sea crochet skirt pattern is somewhat special to me (I knitted the sample with yarn I got from an old lady who passed away since). Not only is it very comfortable to wear but it is very easy to alter for different waist sizes and lengths. Besides it is easy peasy to crochet.

3. What is it that makes your shop unique?

The patterns I offer are all written from samples I wear or use myself. This means I actually wear all those socks that are featured. The artwork is only what I would myself consider using or giving as a present to someone. So, you will only find the best quality items in which I have put all my heart and efforts.

4. What’s next in the pipeline?

Larger pieces of artwork. I am working on nursery wall art right now. I am also considering more knitwear patterns with shawls and sweaters.

5. Tell us something about you or your shop that you haven’t previously shared!il_570xN_429361543_18md

My best ideas come suddenly when I wake up in the middle of the night.

6. And finally, let us know where we can find you.
