Thursday Feature – ForEva Designs

25 Apr

Another week, another Etsy shop feature!  This week I bring you Jacqui from ForEva Designs, a shop full of unique handmade modern jewellery.

il_570xN_437697765_l7pd1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

Hi everyone, my name is Jacqui. I currently live near the beach in Hilton Head Island with my fiancee and our two cats. I am the mother of one, a wonderfully artistic daughter, Eva. I, myself have always dabbled in art, even attended a fine arts school for my drawing and painting skills, it was not until I had my daughter that I started experimenting with making jewelry and found my true artistic outlet. For years I made jewelry to give as gifts to family members and friends. With a little push and the full support from my fiancee, family and friends, my business ForEva Designs was born.

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us about the thought process involved in creating it and why it is your favourite.

il_570xN_408885672_6yh9I do not exactly have a favorite piece, I have a favorite design, the sun I designed when I took Metal Smithing classes in college. I have since perfected the design and incorporate it in many of my pieces both in copper and silver. Though I do enjoy creating other designs as well, the sun remains my favorite.

3. What is it that makes your shop unique?

My shop is unique because everything is designed and created by my own hand using the best materials available. Many of my pieces are one of a kind, a person can be confident in knowing that when they purchase one of my original jewelry designs, they will not run into someone wearing one just like it.

4. What’s next in the pipeline?

As my shop is still fairly new, I am still working on implementing my full marketing plan to get the word out there about my jewelry as well as continuing to come up with new designs and jewelry pieces. Once my shop is established, I will look into opening another shop on Etsy that features a different style of jewelry than what can currently be found in my shop.

5. Tell us something about you or your shop that you haven’t previously shared!il_570xN_427943859_2d4o

My shop ForEva Designs, is actually named after both my daughter and Mother. They have always been big supporters and creative sounding boards for me, that when I was brainstorming on what my business should be called, it just seemed natural to name it after them.

6. And finally, let us know where we can find you.

Etsy Love – When Shutters Click

12 Mar

We come to the end of my Etsy Love series with Natalie from When Shutters Click Gifts who sells handcrafted pendants, greetings cards and other gifts featuring her own photography.  Natalie’s shop is full of beautiful images and I get a wonderful nostalgic feeling when looking through her products.  I love nature and colour and the fact that Natalie’s jewellery and gifts are made using her own original photography make them truly unique.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

The name is Natalie and I’m a fun-loving, crafting gal who fell in love with photography at the age of 15. I have always been a very creative, visual person and come from a family of artists; my mother is a writer and my older brother is a jazz/R&B drummer.

When I decided to close my portrait/wedding/commercial photography business after 3 successful years so I could focus on friends, family and my health.. it didn’t take long for me to miss being creative and creating something I could share with others. After a few months, I decided to use my photography, and my love for crafting, to create pieces of jewelry and other accessories.

While still being able to focus on friends, family and health, I am still able to fulfill my need to be creative and share my work with others.

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us about the thought process involved in creating it and why it is your favourite.

My favourite piece is my Irish Eye necklace. I love that photograph so much, I have a 16×20 canvas print that I hang in my living room wall. The pendant is created using a high quality glass tile and a silver plated high-shine tray; it is my favourite because it is so bright and happy, it is a great fit for any outfit.

3. What is the biggest milestone you have achieved so far whilst selling on Etsy?

I can’t say that I have hit any yet. My shop is still fairly new, so I can’t celebrate being open for a year or anything like that. I am hoping that in 2012 I will hit the 100 sales milestone, that would be wonderful!

4. What are your future plans for your shop and crafting in general?

I have a number of products waiting to be added to the shop, new styles but also new photographs! I have a very special line of pendants coming out soon for my fellow photographers 😉

I am planning a new blog design and hoping to open a shop, in addition to Etsy, on my website where I can offer other products.

5. And finally let us know where we can find you.

Thanks for sharing with us Natalie, your work is very beautiful.  I know that you will do well on Etsy as you have a truly original product and a brilliant eye for photography – it will just be a matter of time before the sales come flooding in!

I’d like to say thank you to all of my contributors to my Etsy Love series.  It has been a pleasure looking at so many original and beautiful designs and vintage finds.

I will still feature shops from time to time and if you would like me to feature your shop, don’t hesitate to get in touch.

Etsy Love – TA-DA! Studio

29 Feb

Next up in my Etsy Love series is Višnja from TA-DA! Studio (what a fabulous name!) who sells handcrafted, illustrated jewellery.  I just love the intricacy of  Višnja’s illustrations, and what a wonderful way of showcasing her beautiful talent by turning it into wearable art!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

My name is Višnja Mihatov Barić, I’m a 28 year old artist living in Zagreb, Croatia, but I was born in the most beautiful city in the Adriatic coast, Zadar. I work as a graphic designer and illustrator and a couple of months ago I started making illustrated jewelry. I’ve graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts because I always wanted to become an artist, it was my dream come true. I was fortunate to be surrounded by my creative family, the are my biggest support and it means so much to me, especially for my work. I spend a lot of time on sketching, drawing, making things, and Etsy is a great place where I can show my art!

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us about the thought process involved in creating it and why it is your favourite.

It’s hard to say which of my items is my favourite, I really love them all because I put a lot of effort and work into each one of them. Every single part of creating one item is my favourite, first I make sketches, then I play with various shapes of polymer clay and in my head I have a vision of what drawing would go perfect with each shape.

3. What is the biggest milestone you have achieved so far whilst selling on Etsy?

The biggest milestone? Don’t know, I think I’m on the right path with my Etsy shop! Hope I will continue with making my jewelry this way, soon there will be lots of different items in my shop, like bracelets and necklaces..My biggest goal is not selling, just making jewelry with my own hands, hopefully more and more people will like what I do!

4. What are your future plans for your shop and crafting in general?

I’m taking one step at the time, I’m not rushing into something that I feel won’t work in the future. I’m still learning everything about Etsy and finding the best way to promote my work, it takes time and lot of patience. The only thing I wish the most, is to become my own boss and work full time creating jewelry!

5. And finally let us know where we can find you.

Thanks for sharing your beautiful, unique jewellery with us Višnja!  It’s always refreshing to discover something a bit different and I love the fact that each of your pieces has its own story.  I hope you accomplish your dream of being able to create jewellery full time – I know I sometimes wish I could craft all day too!

Etsy Love – Nouveau-Tique

28 Feb

Next up in my Etsy Love series is Lisa from Nouveau-Tique who sells jewellery,  art, wedding cake toppers, business card holders and more.  If you have been following my blog you will know that I love nature and especially trees so I really enjoyed browsing Lisa’s shop and particularly adore the wire tree sculptures.   These sculptures are so versatile and can be used as ornaments, cake toppers or business card holders.  Lisa also has a varied collection of other delights which are all presented beautifully and it is clear that care and attention goes into every piece.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

My name is Lisa and I’m originally from NY and now live in LA. I love creating jewelry and art. I have been drawing, painting and making things since I was little. I’ve made many pieces for myself and as gifts for friends and family, and I got such an amazing response that I wanted to start an online shop to reach more people – and now I have my own little shop on Etsy 🙂

I love shopping (a little too much LOL) and the idea behind Nouveau-Tique lets me combine my love of shopping with my love of creating. All of my pieces are made using jewelry and supplies, like tapestry fabric and vintage brooches, that I find in antique/resale/thrift shops and estate sales. Everything is deconstructed and the different bits and pieces are used to design and create new items with a modern-vintage feel to them. I love the idea of taking things that were once treasured but now are unwanted or broken – and creating brand new pieces out of them.

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us about the thought process involved in creating it and why it is your favourite.

It is hard to pick a favorite piece because everything I make is special to me. I think my favorite piece is something that is not currently in my shop. A friend brought me a broken necklace that had belonged to her grandmother and was very special to her. She had the beads in a bag for a long time and did not want to throw them away. From the beads of that necklace I created two different sets of earrings and bracelets – one set for her and one for her mother. She got tears in her eyes when I gave her the sets, not expecting two, and both she and her mother were so happy that they could now wear these and be reminded of the woman who meant so much to both of them.

3. What is the biggest milestone you have achieved so far whilst selling on Etsy?

Every sale and every happy customer is a milestone in itself for me. My one year Etsy-versary will be April 2012, so that will be quite a milestone as well.

4. What are your future plans for your shop and crafting in general?

I am currently in the process of creating a line of bridal hair vines made with crystals/pearls/vintage beads. I am so excited to be able to show them off soon!

5. And finally let us know where we can find you.

Thanks for sharing with us Lisa, especially the beautiful story about recreating memorable jewellery for your friend and her mother – it must have meant so much to them.

You have established yourself very well on Etsy considering you haven’t even reached your first Etsy-versary yet!  It is clear that a lot of hard work has gone into creating your shop and making a name for yourself.  I look forward to seeing your new range soon and wish you lots of success!

Etsy Love – Mapanò

27 Feb

Next up in my Etsy Love series is Alessandra from Mapanò who sells fabric flowers, home decor, and accessories for adults and babies.  Alessandra’s shop has a lovely, light air to it thanks to the gentle colours and softness of the fabrics used in her beautiful fabric flowers.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

My name is Alessandra and I live near Turin, in Italy.  I’m mom of two daughters (3 years and 8 months), wife, front office manager in a hotel and… a creative!  Mapanò is my shop on Etsy. What’s Mapanò?  MA, for MAMMA in Italian (mom in English);  PA, for PAPA’ in Italian (dad in English); NO, for NONNO in Italian (grandfather in English).  Mapanò is a project that includes ideas and skills of all three!  A beautiful way to live my family and build something unique with people I love!  My creations are unique pieces meticulously designed and handmade!  My inspiration? “To live a creative life we must lose our fear of being wrong”!

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us about the thought process involved in creating it and why it is your favourite.

My favorite pieces from Mapanò are some wall decors made with fabric flowers, beads and lace.  These are my favorite because they are like hanging bouquets and are perfect for making any part of the home precious with a little touch of shabby chic design. I used one of them to decorate my daughter’s nursery and she loves these flowers like a little princess!

I also love my necklaces because every day I use the same kind of creations and they really make part of my style and my look. I don’t use elegant clothes and usually I put on a pair of jeans with a blouse or a shirt. My necklaces are perfect for a casual style like mine, because they have a little touch of elegance in the fabric flower but also the practicableness of jersey. Simple and cool!

3. What is the biggest milestone you have achieved so far whilst selling on Etsy?

Unfortunately the startup phase is still running, so I haven’t had a lot of sales, but my personal success is to be really satisfied about my job and I think that people get positively surprised seeing my latest creations. They are unique!

4. What are your future plans for your shop and crafting in general?

For the future, we are preparing some very nice projects completely different from what you seen until today. Lamps created from wood trunks or original curtain hold backs, for instance, are two very interesting projects that put together the electrical skills of my husband and love of my father for iron and wood.

5. And finally let us know where we can find you.

Thanks for answering my questions Alessandra.  Your shop is truly adorable and you have done well to get some sales at this early stage (it took me months to get a sale from someone who wasn’t a friend or family member)!  I wish you all the best with expanding your shop and look forward to seeing your new creations.

Etsy Love – Contempo Jewels

26 Feb

Next up in my Etsy Love series is Staci from Contempo Jewels who sells original and custom jewellery, stationary and hair accessories.  Staci’s jewellery has a delicate elegance to it.  I’ve always been inspired by nature (especially trees) and the woven silver branches and use of freshwater pearls really call out to me.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

I have been on Etsy for 5 years, making jewelry for 13 years. I’m always looking for new outlets for my products and places to meet new people.

I was reading an article about “Handmade Mafia” based out of Philadelphia. I checked out their websites and adored their work. I noticed most of them had an etsy site. Seemed pretty cool, so I started my own.

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us about the thought process involved in creating it and why it is your favourite.

Honestly, I don’t really have a favorite piece. I create jewelry for other people, not myself. That’s why I love custom orders – it keeps me focused and inspired. [That’s OK Staci, I’ll pick a favourite for you – I just love these Pearl Branch Earrings!]

3. What is the biggest milestone you have achieved so far whilst selling on Etsy?

I’m almost at 400 sales – that’s huge for me! I make jewelry and that’s a tough market, so I’m thankful every time I make a sale!

4. What are your future plans for your shop and crafting in general?

I have been so busy focusing on my b+m shop, that Etsy gets lost sometimes. I want to post something new everyday and work on my shop a little bit everyday – change photos, better descriptions, work on tags…

5. And finally let us know where we can find you.

Thanks for sharing Staci!  It’s very clear to me how you have managed to reach almost 400 sales – you have a brilliant talent for creating miniature works of art in each of your designs.  This success is well earned and I wish you many more sales to come!
