Thursday Feature – P&E Collectibles

30 May

This week we get to know Erica from P&E Collectibles, an Etsy shop full of vintage wonders including a wide range of jewellery and pins.

il_570xN_362102796_ox301. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

My name is Erica and my shop is P&E Collectibles (PECollectibles). I sell vintage items from many different time periods with a focus on jewelry. The items in my shop are found at garage sales, estate sales, flea markets and rummage sales. I live in the suburbs and taught special education for seven years. Right now I am looking forward to becoming a full time stay at home mom. I’ve always enjoyed collecting vintage items with a focus on Lucille Ball and Grace Kelly memorabilia.

After having little to no financial success at flea markets and sales, a friend suggested selling on Etsy. I was inspired! I knew I had the ability to make this into a nice little part time business. My other hobbies include card making, seeing musicals and writing.

My favorite piece in my shop has to be a book called the Story of Mary’s Little Lamb by Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ford.  It is a rare book and quite unique. I love the fact that it is a cross collectible. I also love that it tells the true store of Mary’s Little Lamb that we all know so well. I found this book at a local flea market, I knew it was a great item the moment I saw it.

3. What is it that makes your shop unique?

I think my shop is unique because you’ll never know what you will find in it. I have everything from beautiful vintage jewelry to old books to kitchenware.

4. What’s next in the pipeline?

Right now, I’m thinking about opening a second shop with a focus on handmade and vintage children’s toys and learning materials. I’m still in the early development stages of this.

Thursday Feature – Hippo’s Dream

2 May

Happy Thursday!  Today I am chatting to Wendy from Hippo’s Dream – a shop full of wonderful vintage treasures to make you smile.  As you know, I am always drawn to colour and Wendy’s shop just pops out of the screen at me – it is well stocked with an eclectic mix of vibrant goodies.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

I am a true flea market lover; or better said addict…My favorite pastime was and is to visit thrift stores or local flea markets in summer.  Nothing gives me more joy then finding a little hidden treasure in a box or to see some peculiar object on a small stall.

My shop is called “Hippo’s Dream” for a special reason…Years and years ago, when I was a young teenager, I bought at a flea market a mother and baby hippo from the seventies. They were handmade and the mother was truly a big, big animal…I loved them!!!  Years later when I moved house I decided that my little brother could sell my hippos at a local flea market….and now 20 years later I still miss them and I regret that I have sold them. I still have a few blurry pictures that remind me of them.  At every flea market I still look and I hope one day that I find them back….

So I hope that some of the vintage items that I sell in my shop will also give the owner as much joy as my hippos or even better that they find back the treasure that they are searching for, for many years….

il_570xN_440769237_24p32. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us about how you found it and why it is your favourite.

That is a difficult one as I have so many favorite pieces. All of the items in my shop are objects that I want to own myself as I only buy and sell objects that I truly love.  What I truly like are the set of mid century aperitif glasses in red, yellow and green.  I totally love this and up until today I am doubting if I should not keep them myself.

I also like the gemstone spider as it is at the same time stunning and creepy.  Women do not like spiders but I presume for this one they will make an exception.

il_570xN_445579638_e7j23. What is it that makes your shop unique?

My gorgeous items and my first class service!

I am always on the hunt to find the most special, colorful and gorgeous items in excellent or perfect condition.  Customer service is for me also very important.
I answer every mail within the day, items are shipped within 2 days, they are nicely packed in gift wrapping and ribbon and I even give a small present to my customers.

And of course…….a lot of people like my hippo and my shop look….. 🙂

4. What’s next in the pipeline?

I have just changed my complete shop look like my banner and avatar and changing all of my pictures now.  I have a whole list that I want to do next but here are the 3 most import ones :

  • Make a business Facebook page
  • Check for business cards
  • Check for bookmarks and/or magnets as free gifts

I am eager to start with the last one as I have the idea to make big magnets with my pink retro hippo on it (or also bookmarks) and give this as little present.  I even already have an eye on an Etsy shop that I might contact for that. I think they could look so great and I hope that people will like them as gift.

5. Tell us something about you or your shop that you haven’t previously shared!

Every day I get up at 6 o’clock to be sure that I am at work at 7:15 because the first hour of the day is for my shop.  Then I have some time to answers convos, list items and participate in forums.  Few people know this (like my family and husband) but I do not tell it to my friends and colleagues as they would think I am totally crazy.  And to be honest…. they are right…. I am totally crazy …..on Hippo’s dream…… LOL

6. And finally, let us know where we can find you.

You can find Hippo’s dream on www.etsy.com/shop/hipposdream and you can also follow me on Twitter twitter.com/ClausWendy

il_570xN_437789992_c3ybWendy is also offering The Candy Tree readers a coupon code for 10% off for the next coming 2 weeks for all the items in her shop.  Please use coupon code “TheCandyTree” during checkout.

Thanks for sharing your wonderful shop with us, Wendy.  It sounds like you have a lot of fun trawling for new booty and you have a great eye for finding unique and interesting products.  I hope you find your hippos one day!

Etsy Love – One December

2 Mar

Today in my Etsy Love series we meet Michele from One December who sells rustic home decor, custom tumbled marble coasters,  vintage finds and original photography.  One December has a wonderfully rustic feel to it and the range of products compliment each other really well.  Michele has managed to establish a very successful shop and I think that part of that success is due to her ability to portray her love and devotion for her craft in the way she has presented her beautiful products.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

I am Michele, a creator and a collector of cool vintage items! I live in Connecticut with my wonderful family, two overly friendly cats, and a backyard speckled with goats. I love this location and the changing seasons. We live in the country, but are only one hour from all the hustle and bustle of New York City! I have a terrific husband and best friend and I’m a Mom to two awesome little kids with our third on the way! They’re awesome and they keep me very busy!

After finding myself home with the kids, I wanted to find a way to work from home. Etsy has opened my eyes to a whole new world of possibilities I never knew existed! It is so wonderful! I’m so glad that I get to do what I enjoy and be home with my kids! I love being able to connect with people all over the world through Etsy!

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us how you found it and why it is your favourite.

My personalized tumbled marble coasters are my favorite. I’m not exactly sure which design, but I love knowing that I’m creating something special for my buyers. I’m giving them something with meaning to them. It may be the names of their family members, a special date, or a set of initials. Many of the designs featured in my shop were inspired by the ideas of my customers!

3. What is the biggest milestone you have achieved so far whilst selling on Etsy?

When I hit my 500th sale I was pretty excited. So far, that sticks out as the biggest milestone I’ve achieved! For some reason, I had never imagined I’d reach that many sales, and when I did, it felt like a huge accomplishment…like I could actually be on to something here.

4. What are your future plans for your business?

I’d like to continue on with my Etsy shop. I’m always thinking of new ideas…new coaster designs, completely different products to try out in the shop (which is always fun), and I would definitely like to expand the vintage section of my shop. I love vintage! Maybe one day I will open a separate shop focusing only on vintage items! I’d also like to eventually have my husband working alongside me, creating and selling on Etsy. He is so talented and creative, I know it would be awesome!

5. And finally let us know where we can find you.

Thanks for sharing with us Michele!  I have to say I’m very jealous of your lifestyle.  I’m sure it is very hectic, but the idea of living in the countryside surrounded by natural beauty sounds so appealing!  I wish you all the best with expanding your shop and look forward to seeing your new designs.

Etsy Love – Allengrove Vintage

24 Feb

Next up in my Etsy Love series is Mary from Allengrove Vintage who sells vintage clothing, shoes, accessories and home decor.  Browsing Mary’s shop it is instantly clear to me that Mary has a keen eye for beautiful vintage fashion.  I absolutely adore this 1970s secretary dress (being a secretary myself I wish I could get away with wearing something like this at work!).  Each piece in Mary’s shop has its own unique charm and appears to have been carefully selected.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

My mom would take me to thrift stores when I was younger, so I believe my appreciation for used things developed from that stage in my life. It’s a huge thrill for me to find beautiful clothes, accessories and home decor vintage or not. I originally wanted to sell my crochet items on Etsy when the website first started around 2005. I was scared, so I never did it. I didn’t think what I had to offer was good enough. So selling vintage was the next best thing for me. I already had a nice collection and frankly with vintage you don’t have that fear and doubt you have with selling your own handmade things.

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us how you found it and why it is your favourite.

My favorite piece is my 1950’s Doris Dodson juniors dress. I bought it off a vintage eBay seller 5 or 6 years back. It’s my favorite because it’s fabulous! I love everything about it, the circle skirt, the plaid material, the boxy neckline. Too bad it doesn’t fit me. And it’s not currently for sale. I can’t part ways yet!

3. What is the biggest milestone you have achieved so far whilst selling on Etsy?

The biggest was signing up for Etsy. It took me 7 years! So sad. But  I’d also have to say getting my first sale. I hustled for that one.

4. What are your future plans for your business?

I have always wanted to open a thrift/vintage boutique. So hopefully that will happen one day.

5. And finally let us know where we can find you.

Right now I just have an Etsy account. I’m hoping to open more social media sites for my shop in the near future.

Thank you for getting in touch Mary, it was a pleasure to look around your beautiful shop.  I hope that you one day get to open your boutique and fill it with more enchanting treasures!

Etsy Love – Gabriella’s Treasures

21 Feb

Today I am continuing my Etsy Love series with Patricia from Gabriella’s Treasures who sells vintage clothing, art and collectibles.  Patricia goes hunting for vintage finds with her granddaughter, Gabriella, and it is clear that they both have a great eye!

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

I’ve always loved Vintage passionately.  My granddaughter, Gabriella, is my inspiration for my shop and my shop name.  I know I am a very eclectic and creative person, and try to bring that to my shop.  I am 64 years young, but by my personality etc. I am sooo not 64!

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us how you found it and why it is your favourite.

Favorite piece, wow, I love them all.   I honestly can’t say, as my nature is eclectic, I don’t even have a favorite color, I like all color!

3. What is the biggest milestone you have achieved so far whilst selling on Etsy?

My milestone for my shop is just jumping the hurdles teaching myself the computer, how to copy-paste-, learn SEO, it is a whole other world for me, but I am loving it, and I always wanting to learn.  Personal life hurdles – you don’t want to know (LOL), suffice it to say I am an excellent hurdler.

4. What are your future plans for your business?

I have always wanted to do something like this; couldn’t afford to open a real shop; did arts and crafts shows years ago (handmade), had to work a real job and raise 3 (wonderful) children, get through life and illness and all that encompasses our lives, put myself on the back burner because I had to.  It is now time for me to do something for me, and Gabriella and I are doing this; I want success, I do want to make money for my future and Gabriella’s also.  I want to fulfill myself and my dreams I’ve been holding onto for so long.

5. And finally let us know where we can find you.

You can find me here:
Etsy Shop: http://www.etsy.com/shop/GabriellasTreasures

Patricia still has roughly 200 more items to add to her shop so be sure to bookmark her site and check back often for new delights.

Thanks for answering my questions Patricia.  I think it’s great that you share your passion for vintage with your granddaughter and I get the loveliest image of you both hunting for treasure together – I wish you both lots of success in your adventures!

Etsy Love – Cheryl Brisson Folk Art

20 Feb

Next up in my Etsy Love series is Cheryl from Cheryl Brisson Folk Art who paints jewellery boxes and other vintage and thrift shop finds.  She also sells original artwork, art prints and cards.  I just adore the whimsical style of Cheryl’s folk art.  The attention to detail and vibrant colours are so relaxing to look at.

1. Tell us a bit about yourself and where the inspiration came from to start your Etsy shop.

I live in a small city in Northern Canada and was having trouble finding shops that fit my style of folk art – when I found Etsy I knew I’d hit the jackpot!

2. Do you have a favourite piece? Tell us about the thought process involved in creating it and why it is your favourite.

I loooove every vintage jewelry box that I paint – just knowing that someone gave that piece up and that with a little paint and imagination it will be beautiful and useful again – and holding someone’s precious jewels!

3. What is the biggest milestone you have achieved so far whilst selling on Etsy?

Shipping to Japan!

4. What are your future plans for your shop and crafting in general?

I want to keep growing my Etsy shop…I’m also interested in teaching classes and workshops (I’m a part-time Special Education teacher).

5. And finally let us know where we can find you.
